Georgie Guernsey has again graciously invited us to hold the AGM at Packington Hall. As previously this will begin at 2.30 with a lecture at 3 p.m, followed by tea at around 4.15.
This year’s lecture on the tea gardens at Edgehill will be given by Andrew Baxter, a professional engineer and amateur historian, who having lived in Edge Hill for over 50 years, realised a few years ago that he had accumulated  a lot of  knowledge about local history and realised that there is more to Edge Hill than ‘that Battle.’ In fact a lot more, and 100 years or more ago Edge Hill was the  place to visit. Thousands came to Edge Hill on foot, bicycle, horse and motor car. At one time or another there were  10 places where you could stop to  supp a cuppa and admire the view. Edge Hill’s Tea Gardens captured  perfectly those sunny happy English days  before the First World War: long gone but not forgotten.
