Coach Visit – The Newt, Hadspen, Somerset
April 28 @ 8:30 am - 7:00 pm
A wonderful opportunity to explore the Newt estate which until recently was only available to hotel guests or members of the Newt.
Do book early as this visit is expected to fill quickly! The Newt estate includes the seventeenth-century Hadspen house which is set in 30
acres of gardens. It is a working estate, owned since 2013 by the South African billionaire Koos Bekker and his wife Karen, the former editor of South Africa’s Elle Decoration magazine.
Opened as a luxury hotel, the Newt’s beautiful gardens, woodland, cyder orchards, and eating facilities, are now open free to RHS members
(Tuesdays and Wednesdays), with non-RHS members charged a small fee. The extensive gardens include the Parabola Garden, which, designed by Patrice Taravella, lies within a D-shaped walled garden containing a maze of 460 apple trees with 267 cultivars depicting the English counties. Free tickets for a small Garden Tour or a Bee Safari may be obtained on arrival, dependent on availability, but everyone can roam around the beautiful grounds, or visit the nearby Roman villa. Members and guests can also enjoy a light lunch or snacks at the Cyder Bar. There are no facilities for picnics.
