SUMMARY:Visit - Spetchley Park Gardens
DESCRIPTION:May is an excellent month to see the beautiful peonies which attract visitors to Spetchley Park at this time of year. Spetchley was bought by Rowland Berkeley in 1606\, and over the generations\, the Berkeley family have continued to develop the landscape and the gardens.\nRose Berkeley (née Willmott)\, who married Robert Valentine Berkeley in 1891\, was the architect of much of the garden’s design we see today\, including the fountain gardens and the layout of the large herbaceous borders surrounding the kitchen garden. Rose was the sister of renowned horticulturalist\, Ellen Willmott. In 1925\, Spetchley became one of the first gardens in the country to open its gates to visitors under the National Garden Scheme. In 2013\, Spetchley underwent a series of revival projects (with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund)\, in order to protect and rejuvenate the heritage of the garden. Today Spetchley Park also includes a centre housing images from the Park’s archives. The gardens include many different themed areas\, of interest to gardeners and plant enthusiasts. \nOur visit will begin at 11am\, with a guided tour of approximately 1½ hours by the head gardener. Afterwards\, there is an opportunity to enjoy a drink and a selection of foods in the charming on-site Garden Café (at own cost). If you wish to bring a picnic\, there are seats around the garden and lake (please note – own picnics are not permitted in the café nor café lawn). \nSpetchley Park is situated near Worcester\, 21 miles West of Stratford-upon-Avon.\nFrom Stratford\, follow the A46 towards Evesham. Then follow the A44 towards\nWorcester. Go straight over the roundabout with the A4538 Pershore Road and after\nhalf a mile\, turn left into Spetchley.\n(There are alternative routes via the A422 or via the M40/M42/M5 if preferred)\nIf you are using the “what3words” navigation app\, the address is:\nhttps://w3w.co/blend.allows.glaze \nDate: Wednesday 13 th May 2026\nTime: Meet at 10:30am – by the plant sales area (other side of the Welcome Centre)\nCost: £17 for members; £22 for non-members \nBook here!
