SUMMARY:Visit - London Rooftops: The Sky Garden\, The Garden at 120 (Fenchurch Street)\, and Aquashard
DESCRIPTION:Visit for July: London Rooftops: The Sky Garden\, The Garden at 120 (Fenchurch Street)\, and Aquashard on Tuesday 14 July 2026  \nMembers and guests are requested to make their own arrangements to arrive in London\, meeting at the Monument (behind Monument tube station) at 12.30 pm.  We will then have a short walk to the Sky Garden.  Tickets will be booked for 1.0 pm and there will be a conveyor bag check before ascending in the lift.  \nThe Sky Garden (at the Walkie-Talkie building) is London’s highest public complex with clear views of the city from the viewing gallery on Level 43.  The Sky Garden was designed in 2004 by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly who landscaped beautiful terraced gardens\, filling them with luxuriant drought-resistant foliage from the Mediterranean and South Africa. Within the Sky Garden\, on different levels\, there are a variety of eating places and bars\, observation decks\, and an outdoor terrace.  With plenty of time to discover the delights of the Sky Garden and to have a leisurely lunch\, we will leave for The Garden at 120 at 3.30 pm for a 4 pm group visit.  \nThe Garden at 120 at 10 Fenchurch Avenue\, is very different to the Sky Garden\, although one similarity is the bag check.  As London’s most accessible public roof-top location\, its situation on the top of offices is a pleasant space for workers and visitors alike to enjoy a 360 degree view of the city.   Designed by the landscape architects Latz+Partner\,  the garden’s walls have been planted with 85 wisterias\, 25 apple and pear cordons\, 8 fig trees and many varieties of bulbs and plants.  Steel pergolas offer shade while floor surfaces and a water feature add texture to the scene.  It is a treat to wander around with plenty of time to enjoy the views and foliage. \nThe prearranged tour will end here and everyone will walk back to Monument.   \nHowever\, after two amazing rooftop gardens there will be an opportunity to go even higher\, with a short walk crossing the River Thames to the Shard at Southwark.  The Shard is a pyramid-shaped 96-storey building\, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.  It was completed in 2012 and stands 309.6 metres (1\,016 feet) high. The restaurant at the Aquashard is on Level 31\, and has the customary bag check\, then a lift ride\, opening up stunning views\, and the availability for drinks\, and snacks.  Please note though\, if anyone would like to go to the Aquashard we must stress that unfortunately booking tables in advance was not possible\, so ‘walk-in’ members and guests may need to wait for vacant tables. \nAfter everyone has enjoyed the views and teas and coffees etc\, we will disperse.  For those returning to Marylebone station help will be given with directions. \nPhotos: © Diane James March 2026 \nCost: Members and guests will need to arrange their own transport and travel costs\, but  visits to The Sky Garden\, The Garden at 120\, and Aquashard all have entries free of charge\, although many may wish to buy drinks or food at the Sky Garden or Aquashard.  There is\, however\, a £5 charge (£7 non-members) to cover Warwickshire Gardens Trust’s booking administration costs. Please book on Eventcube as usual. \nDirections: Meet by the Monument outside the Monument Tube Station.  \nMeeting Time: 12.30pm. \nAll members and guests will need to make their own way to  London either travelling by train or other transportation to the Tube Station at Monument\, and meet at the Monument (which commemorates the Great Fire of London) behind the station. There will be a short walk to the first venue\, the Sky Garden\, where there are a number of restaurants\, after which our tour will move on to the nearby Garden at 120.  Following that visit\, after a short walk across the river we will arrive at the Shard.  Aquashard is accessed on the righthand side of the building\, where there is conveyor bag check. \nDate: Tuesday 14 July 2026. \nCost: £5 for members\, £7 non-members. \n  \nBook here\n  \n
