SUMMARY:Visit - Baddesley Clinton
DESCRIPTION:Baddesley Clinton \nApril 19th at 10.30 \n  \nBaddesley Clinton is well known as a moated Manor House whose origins may date back as far as the thirteenth century and was the home of the Ferrers family for some 500 years. The house was saved from ruin by Thomas Walker\, who bought the estate in 1940. The National Trust took on the property in 1980. Surrounding the house is parkland\, today mainly meadow with scattered trees with a lake on the south-west side. The walled garden\, formally the kitchen garden\, is now laid out with formal flower borders. The house is Grade I listed. Both the parkland and gardens are registered Grade II. \nStephen Wass was commissioned by the National Trust to review the gardens and park at Baddesley Clinton in the light of new LIDAR images they had commissioned. During the course of this work several new sites were discovered and the whole history of the gardens rewritten. The visit\, led by Stephen\, will provide a first-hand opportunity to view the new archaeology and hear his explanations of its significance. \nThe visit will start at 10.30. Rising Lane is off the A4147 Warwick to Solihull Road from which it is signposted. \nFree to WGT members who belong to the National Trust\, Guest Fee £5.
