SUMMARY:Lecture - "The Restoration of Hagley Park"  - Joe Hawkins
DESCRIPTION:Joe Hawkins\, Head of Landscape at Hagley Hall\, will reveal his journey of discovery during the ongoing restoration of its once celebrated but since sadly neglected\, Grade I registered\, C18 gardens. \nJoe Hawkins was led by an early love of nature and landscape into the world of historic gardens with a career-start tending the Grade 1 registered landscape at Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire. After fourteen years with hands in the earth\, watching the seasons turn\, the acceptance of a new challenge as head gardener at Shugborough awakened a fascination with the development of the English Landscape Garden\, an interest that eventually led to the world of academia and an MA in Garden History at the University of Bristol.  It was on completion of his MA that serendipitous events brought forth a chance meeting with Lord Cobham and his engagement at Hagley. He is currently writing up a PhD thesis on the park.
