SUMMARY:Trip to Bodenham Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Bodenham is a modern arboretum located in a protected valley just outside Kidderminster. Extending over some 54 acres\, it features mature woodland\, specimen trees and shrubs. At the heart are two chains of lakes and pools. It was begun in 1973 when planting started on farmland and earthworks were undertaken to create the lakes. Planting continues to the present day and provides varied habitat for flora\, fauna and insect life. A geological trail has been incorporated into the Arboretum. \nThere are some 3\,000 species of tree and shrubs including important collections of Acers\, North American Oaks and Alders. All of these are catalogued and labelled. Most recently a Grand Avenue of Pope’s Seat Provence Beech has been planted leading to a hilltop gazebo with views of the Clent Hills and surrounding countryside. Although rare and ornamental trees and shrubs can be seen in flower or fruit most of the year\, the Arboretum has spectacular displays of autumn colour which will be the focus of our visit. \nWe will be joining our friends from Staffordshire Gardens and Parks Trust for a joint visit which will include a guided tour of the Arboretum. There is a visitor centre\, shop with plant sales and a restaurant. \nBooking Form
