WGT – AGM & Lecture by Dr. David Marsh
November 7 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm| Free
This year’s AGM will be held on Zoom with a link to follow.
The AGM will be followed by Dr. Marsh’s lecture “Plants on Paper: A Potted History of Botanical Art”,
“Botanical art used to have a rather dull and staid reputation, probably because of the invention of photography. After all, when we have digital cameras and microscopes, we can see things for real. So why would we want a drawing or painting where the artist chooses what we see? Actually, that is the best reason. The artist shows what a camera cannot. The talk demonstrates how botanical art has evolved over the past 1,500 years, depicting every part of a plant including cross sections and parts invisible to the naked eye.”
As many of you will know, Dr. Marsh writes The Gardens Trust’s excellent blog and has recently given a series of lectures over the summer, generously given any voluntary donations to TGT. He is again proposing to offer his fee for our talk to TGT, so we hope as many members as possible will show their support by attending.
